Kate Cotter

It’s the rare artist who can weave metaphor-rich lyrics, haunting vocals and catchy melodies into something that is neither self-serious nor sticky-sweet—something that falls on the indie side of pop and well-groomed side of folk. Kate Cotter’s music may hold traces of a girlhood infatuation with Peter, Paul and Mary, but Cotter traded that folk cassette for the likes of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Tracy Chapman and U2.

After moving to Reno in 2000, Cotter became a self-supporting musician and a local favorite. Her first album, Point of Real, was released in 2002 .Over the past several years, Cotter has toured the East and West coasts and performed throughout Western and Eastern Europe. She has shared the stage with John Gorka, Seth Horan (Vertical Horizon), Shana Morrison, Kerry Getz (JPF Female Artist of the Year), and Rodney Branigan. She is also a recipient of the Nevada Arts Council Fellowship for 2006.

Kate Cotter's highly anticipated second album, August, was released in August of 2007. August not only generated headlines such as "Nothing Hotter than Kate Cotter," but also earned August the title of "Best Local Album" for Northern Nevada for 2007. August also ranked among KTHX's (100.1 FM) "Top 100 albums in 2007."
